In the process of urchasing a 1981 H22, what is the best resource for these boats? Is there a yahoo users group, or a FB page?
TIA

Ask here, these are the best forums for any Hunter.

Tell us how you want to sail the boat, Look at boats for sale on the web and around you, then ask about specific opportunities that interest you.

Found the Hunter resources, thanks all. My first real question would be: For local beer can racing in a not súper competitive fleet, what’s the best sail set up. It’s mostly light wind where we sail and it’s all ocean racing, not far off shore, but not protected at all. I’ve got a deposit w the sailmaker and just need to decide on set up. I’m thinking a 135 or 150 hank on Genoa and the main w two full battens and two reefs, and a Cunningham. The boat has a topping lift, traveler, and outhaul but currently no boom vang; I’ll likely add one. Any suggestion appreciated.

First, you definitely need a vang to hold mainsail shape on a run or reach.

Your main sounds good.

150 to 135? What are your beer can competitors using? Both are basically for going to weather in light winds, and lose their shape quickly on a reach. Most racers I know go for the bigger genny (150), especially if they have the crew to hold the boat at moderate (15 degree) heel as the wind picks up.

Dave, are you speaking generally or do you also sail an early H22? I’ve had the same experience on typical race boats and fleets, kind of curious if there are any anomalies on the Hunter 22 specifically.
Either way, thanks for the input, the more experience based advice the better.

The 22 was phased out for the new wing keel when I became a dealer. I will try to help but can give you information on a general basis but did find excessive heeling was not necessary on that boat which Warren Luhrs said. He designed the boat besides owning Hunter. Feel free to send a private message anytime. One thing I do not give out private information nor give out mine. I do request you report back on the forum. Currently I have a lot on my plate dealing with a gas pipeline coming over my mountain property like a steam roller. Can you believe those idiots in Congress wrote a bill where any surveyor can go onto any property without permission for a new line and on top of that pay you little or nothing for a perpetual right of way that you own, pay taxes on and cannot do anything with. In my case it is a current right of way and all bets were off when the clown attorney threatened me with condemnation. Now the ball is in my court and they will pay for those words as I found I do have rights.
