E33 Issues and Concerns - Cabin Sole (Flooring) Peeling

When the dealer's staff were detailing the boat for delivery, they removed the carpet runners they had installed from day one to protect the cabin sole. Underneath they found that the finish on the phenolic flooring was peeling or flaking in a number of areas. Although the fix is rather simple, it will be time consuming given that there is a somewhat lengthy drying time between coats. The reason, I have been told, that the finish is peeling is because something has occurred to prevent it from penetrating properly at the time of application, causing it to dry on the surface. This is to be addressed in the off sailing season.

Well it has been more than 4 months and we were nearing the off sailing season. The floors have been refinished and are simply awesome. The fix was rather simple but was very time consuming. All the cushions and mattresses were relocated to the v berth, which has removable floor boards, to protect them from dust. The salon, galley and aft cabin had to be tarped, the effected areas sanded, tarp taken down, everything had to be washed and degreased and retarped. Then the floors were sprayed with finish. The finish was allowed to cure and then the process was completed several more times. This job and several other warranty issues were addressed over a 5 week period. The results as I said are stunning. The boat's condition, inside and out, brought big smiles to our faces. The professionalism of the service centre and support from our dealer continues to blow us away.

Stu, there shouldn't be any luck involved. For an industry that is struggling to survive, because of many reasons, the outstanding service that I am receiving should be the norm not the exception. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case.
