Dyneema terminators

I'm looking for some ideas to replace part of my standing rigging with dyneema. The mast connection is what I'm struggling with. I'm a DIY guy and do not want to pay exorbitant prices for proprietary dyneema terminators which are really just slightly modified common hardware. If I could get a T-bar terminal with a thimble on the end of it, I could splice the dyneema onto the thimble and I wouldnt have to modify my mast. Or If I could somehow attach a 'rigging thimble' by using a bolt through the mast. I appreciate any ideas you can suggest.

Mast and their attendant rigging are the most highly engineered part of the boat, do it wrong and the mast will come down. The peace of mind that comes from knowing the mast is secure is well worth the few extra dollars spent on the proper fittings.

There are places to save a few dollars on boats, mast rigging isn't one of them.

While I understand and applaud your I can do it myself initiative, I not sure you grasp the strength and weaknesses of Dyneema.

Those terminators are specifically designed to address the problem Dyneema thread has with being bent at 90 or more degrees.

I would encourage your discovery about this magical line. It has many applications on a boat, bringing light weight and strength to the many structures and systems. It also has some limitations that have been discovered by some only after failure.

Your standing rig project is a good application to consider. The light weight aloft will improve your boat’s performance. The use of Dyneema will mean a shorter lifespan for the rigging project.

The pioneers in standing rigging use of Dyneema have discovered that you need to use a higher grade and it needs to be pre heat stretched to remove the small amount of built-in stretch that occurs during manufacturing.

Colligo Marine is a good source for this info.
