Ok...here is a second silly question to go with my cleaning of my bimini and dodger. Can you dye the canvas? A new dodger and bimini would cost a great deal more than attempting to dye it. Once it is dyed can you put something on it to prevent it from fading? The waterproofing idea was great btw. Ok...I am cheap...but not scotish.

Don't Dye

Charles, I wouldn't recommend dyeing your canvas. Sunbrella colors last as long as they do because they're not really dyed fabric. Instead, sunbrella is made of synthetic thread made of colored plastic. In essence, the color is kind of like vinyl siding...the color goes all the way through the material, not just on the surface. This is why it lasts so long without fading. If you dye it, the color won't last very long & i'd personlly worry about the dye running from the fabric during rain & spray & causing streaks on my deck. I'm with ya on the $$ front. I've been babying my dodger so I don't have to get a new one, too. They 'aint cheap, but they do last a long time. Good luck with whatever decision you make.
