Have you tried taking your's apart and cleaning it. They aren't that complicated. Dutton also sells parts for their Winches. Do you have pictures of it?

Find someone on the board that lives in USA, but driving distance from you; have the winch shipped to them - you go pick it up. Anyone able to help out?

On the safety issue of this.

I bought a new winch for my V22 from Northern tool with a brake, and even though I have not had the boat in the water yet (TOMORROW. . . yeah!!), I am certain I am going to like the brake feature. I broke the keel cable as I was taking it out of the water last November, and the keel went down with a crash. I had the Keel lock bolt in, a brand new 3/8 stainless. I noticed later that this crash actually bent that bolt. I am lucky I did not get serious damage to the boat. So, my point is that an uncontrolled drop of the swing keel is a serous matter and I would recommend a winch with a brake and to replace the keel cable at the first sign of serious wear.

PS: The roller furling I built works great, in the yard at least. WIll have some details and pics next week.

Not to highjack the thread, but Jerry, Post the furler mod in the hank or furl posting. I have all of my stuff there, and it appears to be a great thread to helping people out on that option. I have place a number of photos of mine, and I have assisted a number of people too. Together we can come up with something that is great.

I am gone. Back to the keel talk.

Sorry bout that.
