Does anybody have a method for dealing with the twist which starts at the top of the topping lift and which seems to inevitably occur no matter how careful I try to be when attaching the Dutchman guide lines? Thanks for any comments.

Opposite twist

Take the topping lift and twist it several times in the opposite direction of the initial twist and then tie the topping lift to the guide line. This worked on my boat and lasted all summer.

Opposite twist (correction)

Twist the topping lift in the SAME direction as the twist in the guide line and tie it off. The OPPOSITE twist will then straighten it out (sorry I'm thinking backwards today)

I tried the following today and had some success. Support the boom. I used a ladder. Slack off somewhat on the topping lift and let the ladder provide the support. Take off the topping lift shackle at the clew end of the boom. Take out the twist in the dutchman line. Put back the shackle, and take up on the topping lift. Pray.
