Dull grey

Hi everyone,

last night I slept aboard for the first time this year, and I
realized just how depressing the light grey underside of the deck is.
Has anybody painted it? what kind of paint? what colour (I guess
white)?

Hi:
I've just finished repainting and revarnishing the interior of my V 257
(I own her
over 25 years and wouldn't change to another boat).
I've been using Interlux Bristol Pure White for the Cabin Top, for the rest
Bristol Beige, and Captions Varnish for the woodwork. She looks great again,
though I could not sleep aboard for about a week, sadly.:(

tip of the week.... broker has recomended Sears Weather Beater paint. only
the exterior weather beater though. no other brand..... says it last for
years and costs $25.00 with great results. have not tried this myself but he
has been in boating 20 years and seems to know about finishes...

White works well. We used mildew resistent latex from West Marine on the
mat. On the overhead gelcoat in the cabin we used Brightsides. As a caution,
you can put latex over enamel but you can't put enamel over latex. As far as
varnish goes West Marine Skippers is the store brand of Z-Spars Captains
Varnish. We used Jet Speed as it dries fast to allow a rapid buildup. We
didn't use the skippers varnish as we wanted a satin sheen. Doesn't really
matter on the interior as its the UV that breaks varnish down. One further
caution. A young lady in one of our neighboring marinas a few years back
painted her interior during the winter. It was cold so she closed up the
boat, turned her electric heater on and went to sleep. She never woke up. I
don't know what kind of paint she used. Walt and Judy,
