Also, I saw a note today about the original high capacity bilge pump having been replaced by a much smaller pump.. like 20 times smaller.. Original designer knew that in rough stuff with a load, the boat would go down without a significant bilge pump .. No qualifications on the article so I don't know how much truth it holds.

Question. Is the second duck boat captain less guilty of poor judgment and violating proper practices for the boat? Did he just get lucky? Where his pumps a little faster (edit--just read post 2--seems so), or the curtains a little stronger, or his boat handling marginally better? He dodged a bullet.

It's sad. There needs to be accountability but I can't celebrate criminal prosecution of the "Captain." I can't defend his decision to take that vessel out on the lake when there was a very adverse forecast. That's the big mistake. The curtains, life jackets are mistakes but in my opinion weren't really responsible for the lives lost. It was the vessel being overcome by the conditions. That's the way I see it.
