In a mag., I saw a schematic of a dual fuel filter/water separator system set up to be able to isolate one to change its filter while the engine is still running and switch back when the filter had been replaced. Anyone know exactly how this is plumbed? The fuel filter on the engine is not involved. Thanks. Larry

plumbing filters

you use a series of shut off values to isolate one filter or the other, one before and one after each filter.opening and closing values for the filter you will be using or changing.neat set up ,you must fill filter with fuel and it might be best to use a filter with a bleader built in ot install a bleaded value in the fuel line

fuel filter

You got it right,I plan on doing the same thing to my 450.First I have to engage a surgeon to have my ass cut from the couch or go get a whole lot of potatoes. However last year I had a problem with my engine, the boat is a 99 Thinking it was the water seperator I performed the operation only to find out with the help of Jeff at Sailing Specialties in Mystic Harbor and not my great dealer in Bayshore while I was in Bear Mt.I was not using additive with the fuel, my fuel line was clogged at the fittings on top of the fuel tank. Not bad for having it fixed over the phone,he didnt even send me a bill, and I am most sure it was on a late Sunday afternoon. If I didnt thank you Jeff I am doing it now,we will get even.My dealer in Bayshore hasnt yet returned my call.COOKE &GLEN,sounde like something I had when I was in the Marines.

TOM check your pick up tube

Have a friend that has a 45, and he had a screen in the bottom of his pick-up tube- inside the fuel tank. It got all clogged with gunk, and obstructed the flow. He pulled the tube, removed the screen and presto--all was well. I'm told that hunter no longer uses the screen, but do not know that for a fact. His is a 98 P-45 BTW, duel filters are neat, and is on the "to do" list for this spring.

Filter Manifold

Racor makes (at least 2 sizes of) double fuel filter/water separator manifold(s). The manifold comes complete with filters, plumbing, vacuum guage, valve, backing plate, etc... ready to mount. I had mine installed on the front of the bunk (in the aft cabin) just below the A/C return vent on my H420 by Norton's Yacht Sales in Deltaville. This location puts it in line between the fuel tank and the engine. Removed original fuel filter in the engine room... also added an "Algae-X" ... and use the proper algecide to further (hopefully) reduce fuel contamination. The filter maifold was covered by a matching wood box. The folks at Norton's did such a nice job, that the entire setup not only works beautifully, but looks factory installed. Its now (way too) easy to check , moniter flow thru, valve between, and change filters... all outside the engine compartment, in a very convient location...... By the time you buy filters, tubing, fittings, valves, etc, you might save (maybe) $100 over what it cost to buy the preassembled manifold... but it still probably won't be as nice.

HP HAS THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT

AND THAT IS A BLEED VALVE, ANY TRAPED AIR AND YOUR BACK TO SQUARE ONE, IF YOU'RE USING A BRONZE ELEMENT OR SMALL CARTRAGE, SOME CAN BE DRILLED AND TAPPED ON THE TOP COVER AND SEAL WITH A SCREW, IF IT CAN'T, ADD ANOTHER "T' AFTER FILTER WITH A 1" LONG THD'D NIPPLE AND AN END CAP FOR BLEEDING.
