I have a 27 Hunter (Cherubini) with 13HP Yanmar that has dual engine controls, (one lever for Trans and one for fuel) and a Tiller. I do a lot of solo sailing and wanted to convert to a single control lever since I believe it would be easier to handle.
Has anyone done this? Is there a model specific to doing this? Any pitfalls I should be aware of?
Thanks

How do you do an engine stop with your Yanmar? My old 2QM20 "stop" was the throttle. Pull it all the way back and the engine quit. Sure would not want that to happen when looking for reverse at the dock. I prefer them to be separate so I know the rpms when changing gears. Will your engine never quit as you go from forward, through neutral, to reverse? I also single-hand mostly and never found two levers to be a problem. Just one viewpoint for what it is worth.

I have a pull knob on the the yanmar control panel. The shift and throttle are not part of that panel. I also am 6-2 and when picking up a mooring it's a small issue.

Single lever engine control is well worth the effort. I did one on my hunter 33 and my cCom-Pac horizon comes standard with one. I find there is less bumping into things. They are all built to the same dimension standards. They have multiple mouting holes on the activating arms so you can select the "throw" you need. Vetus looks nice, Teleflex is OEM quality.
