A friend gave me a DS41 unit off his boat when he upgraded. I thought I would put it on my boat as a backup. When I put it on the battery (+ and -) it beeps but does not show a reading. Even with the transducewr plugged in. Is it faulty? screen is blank?

Is the transducer in liquid and aimed?

The transducer needs a target to reflect back its signal and a medium such as water or oil to carry that signal. I'm no expert but I know my sounder will not work on the trailer unless the trailer is in the water and the signal is returned by the bottom of the launch ramp. You also might be able to mount the transducer in an oil (veggie oil) filled PVC tube mounted inside the hull rather than drill a hole in the hull. Good Luck, Ray.
