i am currently looking at a h25'81 can anyone offer a must checklist for this boat? i have always liked the lines and look,as well as the room below. We are a young family and are looking for a way to bring the sailing fever to our next generation, before little league starts! Any guiding info would really be appreciated. thank you in advance, bill

Bill, check the thread headed "Prospective 25 Owner" in the Ask An Owner forum - dated 1/6, I think. There are 4 replies posted there to this question. Good Luck - they are a great boat John

In addition...

...to the responses in the thread mentioned, check the rudder post etc. My 25 has had several problems there. Check outboard mounting on transom for cracks or major problems. I've also had some electrical problems and the switch panels are not easily accessed. Have someone check all the wiring. Otherwise sturdy little boat.

Get a survey?

You might consider a professional survey. Otherwise, I would also ckeck bottom for blisters and deck for water saturated balsa coring. My 74 Hunter 25 had a lot of deck problems caused by neglect by prior owners. I definatelt agree to check rudder, rudder post and where rudder post passes through boat. I know of two boats that have lost rudders on hard groundings. I've only sailed my boat for one season, but really enjoyed it. A very good family boat, responvive yet quite stable after initial heal. Good luck.

25 Survey

From experience as a marine surveyor you should always purchase subject to your acceptance of a survey. The surveyor only works for the person who hires him or her.

I bought Dry dock H25 1979

Hull inspection and Mast step are a must inspection. They are prone to delamination over years of dry dock. Wiring that isnt grounded. Last but not least inspect the front hatch for dry rot and cracks. Look under pads and in wells for water.....Good luck
