I have a 1996 29.5, while preparing for the new season, I discovered that all the liquid around my compass is gone. (The 29.5 has the compass mounted on the table in front of the wheel) Is there a way to refill it? What do I refill it with? I know I have leak somewhere, the housing underneath feels 'oily'. Anybody had this issue? Thanks, Jane

compass oil

The compass is filled with oil. You should be able to buy the oil from a marine retailer, or from Ritchie or whoever made your compass. You probaly have a leak in the fill/drain so you might want to fix that or the same thing might happen again. I've heard of some people using mineral oil to refill but I don't know if that's what the OEM product is. Keep your compass covered because sunlight will make the fluid cloudy.

leaky compass

not an uncommon problem. You can buy compass oil or substitute somethng equivalent, however, it will only leak again until you either repair the diaphram and other internal parts now oxidized which may be cost-prohibitive or not worth the time or effort comparted with the minimally increaed cost of buying a new one.
