I just purchased an '85 28.5. There are only minor problems on the boat which I know how to remedy, except this: my pedistal compass is dry. What to do short of replacement?
Don't remember the brand, but replaced the compass on my 87 28.5 for about $45.The old one was "cloudy", faded, hard to read, etc. Bought mine during a clearance sale at a local West Marine and it was worth every penny. Personally, I think you'd be better off buying a new one.
Check with any reputable company that rebuilds compasses. My brother had his done last year (replaced the crazed dome/lens and it's just like new. Also a reasonable cost.
