Can anyone give me some insight into dropping the rudder on a Hunter 272? Anyone who knows this model may also know how difficult it is to get at the mechanics underneath the cockpit, so, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Wheel or Tiller

Just did this on my 1978 H 27. With a tiller it's easy. 1)Out of the water dig a hole about 2' deep under the rudder. (The hole needs to be about 2' x 1' x 2' deep). 2) Remove the tiller. There is 1 screw at the top of the hinge. 3) Remove the tiller hinge from the top of the rudder post. There is 1 screw through the bonze fitting through the rudder bost. 4) Have someone support the rudder from the ground and remove the long thing screw that goes through the derilin bushing on the top of the rudder and throug the rudder post. If the person on the ground supports the rudder it will come right out. If not the screw will be harder to remove but it will still come out. 5) When the retaing screw is out the rudder should drop down. 6) If you have a wheel I have no idea, but I bet is similar with the addition of having to remvoe the quadrant. Hope this helps.
