I've had to drop the lead keel on my 1987 Oday 28 because one of the bolts seemed to be pulling out of the lead keel. I is pulling out, and it has brought up a couple of questions. The bolts are bronze, which seems different. Even the boat yard was quite surprised. Does anyone else have bronze keel bolts? And, if so, is there anything special about working with bronze?

Bronze bolts

Thanks, I call Rudy yesterday and there seems to be some strange things with my keel. The bolts are a bronze alloy material, but Rudy says they always used stainless steel. We pulled out the loose bolt that started this who thing, and the "J" at the end was broken and corroded, no rust though. It appeared to be hand made, so were guessing it was somhow damaged during construction. The boatyard is getting a new bronze bolt fabricated and will sink it back into the same hole and attach a nut to the end by digging out a cavity neat the end. All this will then be filled and the keel re-installed. At least that's the plan.
