I’ve had a great deal of fun adjusting the settings of my autopilot, but I've always been curious about the following. Just what is the effect on the way the autopilot operates, when changing the “drive type” setting from 1 to 2? I have the ST4000 and wish there were more technical explanations of all the setup settings in the owner’s manual, or some supplemental source of information to explain in detail the operation of this device Thanks Jon W

Drive Output Characteristics

Drive Type1 ramps up the voltage output gradually. This is easier on the motor and better for power consumption. Drive type 2 gives an immediate 12V output. Typically our hydraulic autopilots are used with Drive Type 2 and mechanical drives with Drive Type 1.
