Dripless Shaft Seal

I just had a dripless shaft seal installed on my 2002 Hunter 340. However there is some leakage during low revolutions in forward motion. I have had the shaft dialed out, (very true) and the prop replaced so I am down to the Yanmar engine mounts which are original. I have observed a lot of shaking during low revs at the shaft. I am wondering if new plastic mounts will fix the problem. I have heard good things about these new plastic engine mounts. Does anyone have experience with these new mounts and has it fixed your shaft seal leaks? Also what is the vibration level like compared to Yanmar mounts whcih are rubber?

Is the shaking only at the shaft as you implied? If it was a bad mount, you more than likely would notice vibration in the entire train. If you let us know what type dripless seal you installed, we can probably make some semi=educated guesses.

leaky shaft seal

I have a PSS seal in my 1GM drive train. The 1GM sits on relatively soft rubber mounts
and jumps around like crazy at certain rpm and is anything but steady at all other rpm. I was assured that that is not a problem for the seal and in its first few years I noticed no leakage.
So vibration need not be the explanation for your leakage.
I now have some leakage at all speeds, presumably due to scoring of the carbon disk by grit in our tidal waters. So now I'm about as well off as I was with the old stuffing box.

Is There Enough Compression On The Bellows?

That would be the first question I'd ask. I have had them on three boats. It would be the first thing I'd check. Remember that there are two sets of set screws, one on top of the other. You will want to get new ones and be sure to use Locktight on them. A hose clamp or zinc in front of the disk is always a good idea too.
