My model 2000 Beneteau 36cc has a volvo-penta dripless shaftseal which is leaking. It generally drips about every 10 seconds. When the motor is running that rate varies but usually increases. Are there any adjustments I can make to the seal to stop the leak, short of pulling the boat and replacing the seal? I have greased it but that didn't stop the leak.

Thanks, Greg.

When was the last time it was serviced/greased?

I greased it this weekend and it continued to leak. However, I ran it shortly, but only in the slip, in and out of gear. I've owned the boat 3 years, haven't previously greased it.

On mine the bugaboo was that it had not been run in quite a while. You can adjust the fit at the seal, but that works only if its surface has not pitted. I suppose you could sand or machine that smooth, but it requires disengaging the shaft, reassembling and hoping for the best. At that point new dripless systems is probably in order. Under $250.

ok, thanks. Not really wanting to pull the boat, but I'll use it a little, adjust the fit a little, etc.

Thanks all.

I did put a piece of fine sand paper in between the 2 collars and cleaned up where they meet
and that helped a lot and can also adjust by removing set screws pushing in maybe 1/4 inch.
But try sanding in between first.

You might want to double check the engine mounts and alignment? The drip that was significant is still leaking on our boat, but the alignment improved to the point I can get it to stop. The goal as you said is to put off replacing until the next time you have the boat hauled. I need a new seal but haven't started shopping around yet -- let me know what you find as I wouldn't mind a better online source for a Volvo dripless seal.

Great ... more reasonable than I thought as well. I have some bottom work to do so might double check my measurement and pick one up so I have it when I haul. Thanks for checking and let us know if this solves you drip.
