i am in the prosses of re-packing my stuffing box on my 1980 hunter 27 i see a new drip-less moldable packing made by western pacific trading comp. it is to be used with regular flax stuffing ///its suppose to be dripless when in stalled//like to know if anyone in hunter land has used it before and how does it work? tom and the MISTRAL are warf sick looking for spring

This upcoming season will be the fourth for the "dripless-moldable" packing. I will probably add some this spring and readjust just for peace of mind. But after three seasons of no drips I can highly recommend it. I see where it has gone up $10. in price. Result of BoatUS buyout?! Run the motor in gear at the dock and adjust gradually for no drip. It will take another adjustment probably after you have run awhile. I did one more adjust in the third season. Meanwhile not one drip. You will also want to check the shaft after a long motor to satisfy yourself that there is no overheating. Mine is barely warm to the touch.

Eliminating shaft drip
I put a SPF Shaft Seal (available from Defender-800.628.8225) in my '86 H31 for about $150.00. Two trips from RI to FLA. No heat, No drips, No problems. Good product.

This is great stuff! I installed it on my H33 four years ago, and think I might have to replace it this Spring. Not bad, eh? I only wish it wasn't so expensive, but it certainly does the trick!!

don't you find that one package leaves you with a lot of extra? I think I only used one "plug" of the four or five that are in the pack. Now where did I put the leftovers?!

Is the cost comparable to the ceramic device that is sold on this site. It's around $150 and I would have to uncouple the shaft to install it. Which is best? Jeff
