Is there anything to watchout for when drilling a hole (2" Dia) in the starbord side of the cabin wall to install my depth gage? Is the wall hollow? (I want to run the wires to the electrical panel inside the wall) Thanks for your help.
Bob, hope you mean the hull and not the cabin wall. Your depth gauge should be installed thru the hull of the boat so the transducer is pointing straight down into the water. If you install it at an angle to the bottom of the lake you will not receive accurate depth readings. Follow installation instructions and it less exciting if the boat is out of the water when you drill the hole.
Which model boat are you asking about? The 240 / 260 wall on the starboard side has nothing but air and some wiring between the outer and innner wall. The electircal panel is also on the starbaord side, so you can take it off and look inside to how much working area you have.
I mounted my fishfinder on the inside and used a piece of oak and mounted it to the winch access plate. I use ram-mount to move it around so when I am on the boat just swing it into position. When I am gone it hidden fron prying eyes. No holes to drill and it won't damage the cockpit well.
