I've Just purchased an Oday 25....The owner suggested that I drain the bilge by removing a plug thats on the keel...He also states that there is a small hairline crack a few inches below the plug. he suggests that I fill the crack with 5200 and be done with it. Is this sound advice, and how concerned should I be about this hairline crack. Joe

I'm not sure how your bilge drain/throughhull is set up, so I cannot comment. On the crack....I highly suggest having a surveyor, hull specialist take a look at it. You will probably have to pay them for a half-hour's work, and they can tell you how to fix it yourself. If you cannot fix it yourself, they'll let you know, and you'll have a bigger fix on your list.

Joe, You have made several posts, but not appraised us of your experience level. I like the suggestion of having a surveyor make a recommendation. That is a lot better than even experience yard workers. A surveyor would be an independent non biased recommendation. My method would be penetrating epoxy and epoxy paste. I stay away from 5200 even for problems like this. I have had to repair too many things originally done with 5200 (manufacturers loved and still use the stuff). Keep the questions comming.
