If it is useful, what’s a reasonable amount to install on a 190 sqft main and a 130 sqft jib? Would one stripe do or would two or three be best. Top to bottom, what’s the most effective location? Which colors are easiest to interpret, Sailrite has red, blue or black.

If sail is white, two black stripes, 1/3 and 2/3 down from top. If sail is colored, choose most contrasting color.

Why would you want draft tape in Maine? There are so many more interesting things to look at than your sail shape. You're already there so why worry about going .07% faster?

While I agree with Roger;) I do like draft stripes and when ordering a new sail add it on..

Ask me again when I get to Frenchboro .07% sooner than you do as the sun sets, and I pick up the last available mooring. I hope it's calm enough to offer you a raft up, because anchoring there is not fun.

I thought those tapes were to help lay the sail out for rolling it up. 8^D

Usually the draft stripe matches the color of the numbers or logo on your sail, but black works with everything. The draft stripes are very helpful for determining where the draft is in your sail, which changes with the addition or reduction of luff tension via the halyard or cunningham. Tighten the luff up and the draft moves forward. Ease it off and the draft moves aft. You make these changes in various wind velocity conditions. Two are probably sufficient for your main.

Thanks for the input. I though the draft tape would help me see what I’m doing. Then we can have more time to take in the surroundings, which is the point anyway.:) Or we can fly like the wind.:D
