Why isn't the mainsheet led down the side of the arch instead of led all the way to the mast and back to share the port jib sheet winch? Having the mainsheet on the arch would certainly simplify singlehanding. While we are on the topic of singlehanding - is it possible/desirable to mount a track for the jib to make it self tacking?

Harken has a sample layout

Tom: If you look at the Harken site, they have done this with a roller furler. You can just haul out your roller to about 90-95 percent and attach to a track across the cabin just in front of the mast. We are planning on doing this in the next year or so. I have also seen this done on the Hunter Channel 31' (British version), Dehler and several other high end boats. When you have light air you can just hook sheets to the jib and use it like a traditional roller furling jib. Best of both worlds. Obviously not going to be a efficent but when you're sailing alone safety is more important.
