Doyle DRS with sock

I purchase a 1992 Hunter 28 in the fall, and had only 3 days sailing before putting it up for the winter. With the purchase was a Doyle DRS in a large bag. I only got to see it on dry land. Is there any place on the web I can go to learn how to use this sail? How is it attached to the boat? Should I consider a whisker pole to add usability?Thanks.

I am unsure what a DRS is. The APC Spinnaker from Doyle has a "how to" on their web site. The link is below. I didn't see anything on a DRS, but you might find something where I didn't.Good luck.Steve

Drifter/Reaching Sail

I think this was a very early sail for reaching and sailing downwind in light air-similar to an asymetrical spinaker.Is it made of a real light material.

DRS or APC?

I had to do some digging because we haven't made these for a while. Basically a DRS is the precurser to the UPS or MPG. It is a nylon Genoa with a rope luff that is flown without attaching the luff to the headstay. It is used like a drifter in light air and for reaching in moderate winds. To setit simply attach the tack to the bow cleat or some other convenient attachment point and then hoist the sail on a genoa or spinnaker halyard. Make sure the luff rope is fairly tight. Then sheet the sail as you would a genoa. I would definitely try to wing it out with a whisker pole to see if it works well. You might be pleasantly surprised!Bill C.
