RFWalrath: I don't know what happened to the rest of the question but I'll just ramble on about downwind. There is very little written about downwind but while racing it is my favorite point of sail. The reason is that out here in So Ca most racers use that leg to break out the sandwiches and beer and head directly dead down wind to the mark. I use that leg to go to work and can generally pick off at least 2 boats before the know what hit them. Unless it is blowing like stink, DDW is the slowest point of sail. Even if your just cruising, you should understand how to correctly sail downwind unless you don't care what time you arrive at your destination.I've complied just about everything there is to know about sailing downwind and when I conducted the sail trim forum last year the good folks here at sailboatowners.com published it so mates could print it off free. If there is enough interest, perhaps they could republish it. There are a couple of typo's that I would have to fix first - I'm a better sail trimmer than a typist!! Speaking of sailboatowners.com providing free stuff - like this forum - to show your appreciation you should pop on over to their ships store and take a look at all the great sailing stuff they sell. They have excellent prices also!! What has West Marine provided free to you lately?
