Hi all,

Just saw several local fishermen towing little dinghies (2-3) with downriggers in each one. Is there a new way of fishing with multiple boats? Can't find any local info on the practice or where I could find these little dinghies.

Are they somehow using them to hold the lines outboard so they can put more lines out?

On the Chesapeake a lot of non-commercial fishermen are using planer boards. Some homemade, some purchased. They are a poor mans outrigger. Here's a quick google hit. http://blog.fishidy.com/2015/04/trolling-with-planer-boards-for-walleye/
These show one line per float. The ones I've seen have clips on a clothes line type pulley arrangement with clips on the line and they pull multiple fishing lines outboard to spread out as many fishing rigs as possible. when the fish hits, the line pulls out of the clip.
They are a real PITA because they take up a lot of space and most non-commercial fishermen believe they have the so called right of way because they are "fishing".
