Advice

With a sailboat, you particularly want to know about current. South Carolina is wicked, especially Beaufort and Hilton Head. You could get carried out to sea on an ebb tide. New Bern may not have it so bad, but somebody there knows the answer.

NC is the best!

Hi, Bill: As North Carolinians, we think you'd make a wise choice by moving here. We live inland now, but when we reach retirement age, we're definitely heading to the coast! Are you considering other areas besides New Bern? If you're looking for nice coastal towns that are quiet, you might consider Edenton. (very historic.) Carol

North Carolina

The Neuse, Pamlico, and Albemarle Rivers and Sounds are a sailors paradise, lots of places to sail too, gunkholes to explore and town waterfronts to enjoy. I can think of 6 major boatyards within 20 miles of New Bern so cost of living/ sailboat issues are pretty reasonable.

Its terrible down here the bugs and the shoals not to mention the locals. You cant ever tell where the wind is coming from next and all they have is sweet tea. try north Fla

If you like a pretty city, Savannah's it

As a former Northerner, living in Savannah, I fell in love with the beautiful city here. But it's buggy as all get out. Right now we are at a marina in North Florida, near Daytona, which is very nice, comfortable, etc, on the intercoastal. No bugs either. If you will live aboard, like fresh air, and don't go ashore for much more than provisions, North Florida would be my choice. Let us know what you decide. jeribelle

try the Edenton NC area

I was in Edenton(aptly named) NC today collecting an account and fell in love with it. I had lunch at the harborside i think. They have a cool new quay (set them back $3M) and lots of space. Im looking in to it for my boat as we live in Raleigh. About 2.5hrs away.
