Has anybody ever replaced the blocks inside the rudder post to increase the downhaul purchase to 3x? I assume you would have to decrease the thickness of the line...but with the new line strenghts out there, I don't think this woud be an issue. Just curious if anybody had tried this...and does it make it easier? Thanks in advance Gary Compass Rose

Removed them on my H260

Those D*** blocks in the rudder caused more headaches than I thought they were worth. I took them out the first week I owned the boat, and have just a straight line through. To get the rudder down, I simply give it a little push with my foot to get it started down, then use the control line to get it home and tie it off. Fair winds, Tom

I took them out when I repainted the rudder. Never have figured out how it when back. I think there were supposed to be 2 but I only had one. really believe my boat was made on a Friday in anticaipation of a drunk weekend or on a Monday after a drunk weekend.

rudder replacement

Am in the process of replacing the swing rudder with a drop rudder. This allows the rudder depth to be varied as there are times in shallow water when it is difficult and dangerous to just use the motor. I made a rudder box from aluminium then pop rivetted it together then had a friend aluminium weld it for extra strength. The rudder is a piece of 9ply marine grade shaped to slide up and down then fibreglassed. Will try it once summer comes to Oz.
