I am thinking of installing a downhaul line for the Main Halyard.
Has any one done this?
Is the line somehow attached to the luff of the sail so it doesn't flop around?

Thanks in advance

Mark: I assume that you are having issues with the main dropping. This has been an issue with the B&R rigs from your era. I had a 31 and had the same problem.

You may want to be sure that your main halyard is not too large. The original spec was for 1/2" line. We found that it should have been 7/16 and a line that does not swell up when it absorbs moisture (like staset x). You will also want to be sure that you have a clean track and keep it lubricated.

If you look at changing the slugs to good quality metal ones that can help too.

Check the archives for other suggestions.

I don't think I understand the question but would like to.

Issue with the "main dropping"? Like the main halyard is stretching? Are you talking about adding a Cunningham?

I think that you are talking about adding a line to the shackle so that when it's time to drop the main you can pull it all the way down from the cockpit when short handed. Right/
it will work. Add a block on deck and bring the line to the cockpit. I have a similar arrangement on my hank on jib. I ran the line through the hanks and back to the cockpit.
