What Thai Teak Marine Says
In an effort to follow-up on what Jack had to say and to make sure I was reading things correctly, I contacted Thai Teak Marine and just flat-out asked them what it would cost to acquire dorade boxes from them and here's what they sent me back:Bob,Those items are available from stock. Below is a proforma showing cost for 2 and 4 ea. and postage for 2 and 4 as well. I would not suggest the use of air mail right now - I doubt it is any faster than SAL with the current problems.Proforma Invoice#309M Dorade box assm - $25.20 x 2 ea. = $50.40 OR#309M Dorade box assm - $25.20 x 4 ea. = $100.80 Cost of delivery by mail: 2 ea. OR 4 ea.Air Mail - about 1 week - $86.25 OR 123.75SAL - about 3 weeks - $56.25 OR 77.50Surface Mail - 3 to 4 months - $31.25 OR 27.25If you decide to order and after you have decided on the mode of shipping we will confirm the correct total. We ask for payment payable to Thai Teak Marine Co. Ltd., prior to shipping, by Cashiers check, Bank draft, Money order, or US$ check air mailed to our street address in Thailand. Wire transfer is fine as well. On receipt of payment we will immediately mail the order. If you would like to FAX us a copy of the check, we will mail based on that.Best regards,Donald L. Petrie 'pete' What Mr. Petrie is not including, tho, in his prices is the customs tariffs. I checked with U.S. Customs in Houston, Texas, and the tariffs aren't bad; maybe about $20 for the whole shipment plus my time to go down and clear it through the bonded warehouse, but that could be on the way to the boat. One could also use a customs broker, but, remember, every middleman adds a bit for him and pretty soon, one is back up to that $86 price. Based, tho, on what Mr. Petrie sent and what U.S. Customs told me, the price through TTM comes to about $65 a piece for the dorade boxes.Mr. Petrie was very forthcoming and very prompt in his response to email inquiries and appears to be pretty honest in his communications. It might be worth it to give a try and see how it works out. Of course, if you are not located at a port of entry, like I am, it might be more problematical; that I just don't know. Then again, there might be something said for paying a little more for the convenience of ordering on a Monday and picking the boxes up on the way to the boat on Friday!Thought I would pass this along in hopes of clarifying.
