Has anyone put openning doors to replace the hatchoards on 83-87 31H? It is very tiresome when you have to go in and out of the cabin with the AC running. I really could use some ideas. Thnaks Paul

yes They are GREAT

They were with the boat when we bought it. They have slide in windows and permenant screens. Not much for security but when we leave the boat for the week we put the hatch boards back in. They were home made but very well done. If you want me to I could attempt to photograph them. Send me an email if you do. Keith

Please take the picture

Would you please take several pictures (inside and out plus open) and post of photo/project forum. I have been thinking of doing this project also, as I am getting tired of the two hatch boards on my boat. Ian s/v Meant to Be

Smoked plexiglas...

made for excellent door material. We installed two hinges in the aluminum extrusion companionway frame. A hinged lock hasp mounted to the plexiglas door that partners with a lock eye mounted to the companionway top slider provides security. We used hinges of a gudgeon and pintel design to allow easy removal of the door when we are on or about the boat and do not want to contend with a swinging door in the cockpit.

Pics will require...

a little time since we will not be back to the boat until August 5. BTW, we used Lexan also, the plexiglas was a misnomer. They get slammed around and have not even chipped.
