There are a lot of bits and pieces to a sailboat. Some are really important, some not so much.

After many seasons, nobody knows your boat like you do.
Shake down 2019.jpg

And shake it did this weekend! Gusts to 20 knots, explosive mini storms that included a deck rattling dump of pea sized hail stones. But mostly - thanks to Westerly winds, it was beautiful - hot summer weather on the cold bay.

My fiberglass fabrication to anchor the port upper stay,...tested well. Glad for the reef in the main, should have had more(meaning less,...)

The best thing was to be on the water. We (those of us lucky enough) live well insulated lives one shore. Thick walls keep the natural world at bay. Braving the weather means dashing from the kitchen to your car in a shower.

On the water, everything changes. We could see the storms approaching on the horizon this weekend. We could hear them in the whipping treetops to windward a few minutes before the sky would open up, leaving us just enough time to get below.

Then we could watch them roar away over the trees and the sky's would miraculously clear.

It's another world!

"Next week," he said hopefully. We're going to try and launch on Friday, if the weather holds and the mud isn't too deep. Then we'll be sailing again. :)

Just in case, can any one get me a deal on a heavy lift chopper to pick up and launch my boat? :(
