I dont know

Did you buy it used? Ours, 1997, came with a 15 inch 3 blade that pushed us at 8kts. We changed it for a folding 2 blade that does 7.8.

Stock Prop?

Gene, Maybe the fixed 2-bladed prop is what Hunter was suppling at the time they built your P42. My '97 H40.5 came with a fixed 2-bladed 18x16 prop. At 2500 RPM I got 7.0 knots. I replaced it with an Autostream feathering 3-bladed prop 18x14 and now get 7.7 knots at 2500 RPM, plus she stops on a dime and sails faster. Cost - $1424

Reduction change mid stream.

Dear Gene, Thanks for your note. I assume you have a 17” and not the 18”, which is now being equipped on the newer P42’s? At some point during production Hunter made a reduction gear change. Your 17” is installed on a 2.17:1 and the newer P42 are equipped with a 2.62:1. Max shaft rotational speed went from 1,658 to a slower 1,374. Hope this clears it up. Sincerely, Kevin L. Woody
