donated without title

A salvage yard wants to donate a older (He thinks 1969) 22ft MacGregor to our youth program at the church. The hull & mast are sound it will need a good cleaning and rerigging. The problem is the title. It is nonexistent. The registration is long ago expired and the numbers have peeled. Might of read D-207894 or close to that.Is there away to get a new title & registration the boat, It would make a good youth project otherwise.

Normally, you would be able to find a Hull Identification Number imprinted into the transom to identify the boat. Unfortunately, these numbers weren't required until about 1973. If the yard wants to claim the donation, then they may have to get title first. Otherwise you will have to find the state agency that presides over boats (may be different than cars and trailers) and ask what the procedure is. Am dealing now with a '73 Mac-22 donated to the Seascouts by a marina, had to wait half a year even with the HIN#. Turns out it was abandoned by the BoyScouts. If anyone has a rudder or boom, let me know.
