Beautiful Place
Back in the 80's we used to have a charter boat we ran out of English Harbor. We would anchor off of Roseau or Portsmoth when transiting north and south.Lush, jungle island, very impoverished, little development.Had to leave at least one onboard at all times to keep people from looting. It was a wild place, locals would chant, and beat drums along the shore all night long;it was pretty eerie. One year in the early 80's they actually burned two missionaries at a stake.Dominica was a stronghold of the Carib Indians in and before colonial times;they used to keep the peaceful Arawak Indians in cages for their cannibal practices. I know it is all changed now and I am sure there will be nice resorts, developments and as safe as any place is in that part of the world.Use commen sense as anywhere and enjoy!(Used to work for Windjammer and Capt Burke and son outfitting the Polynesia right after they bought it.Another story, quit after 4 passengers died in the 70's due to negligence.Junior lost the Fantomme but that was a crap shoot.Went the wrong way.For one Hurricaine they actually ran one of the vessels up a river in Dominica and intentionally scuttled it,secured lines to trees and survived. That was a brilliant move on their part.)
