LED and CFL
Hello,
Last spring I decided on replacing some of the overhead lights with units that used less power. I bought a DR LED unit, a combo red / white LED light. I bought the entire light, fixture and all. I went to install it in the main cabin, the light over the salon table. The problem is that there wasn't enough room to hide the wires. With the stock light, the wires get hidden in the base.
I bought an Alpenglow CFL light, red, low white, bright white. It came with a nice wood base and there was room to hide the wires.
I mounted the DR LED light near the nav station.
Anyway, the Alpenglow is great. I can use the red light when sailing at night. the low white is good for overall lighting, but not bright enough to read. The high light is good for lighting the entire inside of the main cabin.
The DR LED light works great at the nav station.
The Alpenglow light was expensive, but I'm happy with it.
Good luck,
Barry
I've been wanting to replace the incandescent bulbs for a long time and I think it's finally the right time. My question is, any of you out there with O'day 34's and 35's, do you know which style bulb is used in our overhead dome lights? I assume most of the fixtures are the same on our boats. My biggest concern is to keep the same ambience that the incandescent bulbs give. I do not like the cold light most led's give off.
