What tips could anyone give in regards to : working on a boat on a trailer with bunks. Specificly ,raising the boat to paint the bottom/keel where it rests on the bunks/trailer .

Boat stands (aka poppets)
You could use a couple of boat stands, I think small power boat stands are good, to lift the aft of the vessel along the tramsom high enough so thataccess is gained to the aft edge of the keel and the keel trunk. With two more stands and one for the bow, you might be able to pull the boat slowly off the trailer by placing two stands aft and then pulling the trailer out forward while placing the additional stands more and more forward. However, with bumnks this can be hard to do. Of course, putting the boat back on the trailer is probably more difficult.

Lower the hitch as far as possible and block up under the stern. Be sure the blocking will not topple in any direction (like sink 4X4s 3 feet deep and bolt to these) Then lift the hitch using a car jack (the little crank on those front wheels can't take the weight now) and block under the bow. When you lower the trailer the boat should be high enough to do almost the whole hull. If not, remove the wheels.

i use 4 boat stands to raise the boat up off the trailor to do the btm. once it is up i pull the rest for the keel off the trailor and drop the keel down part way. this has always worked for me.

Please look in the forum archives. I had the same question and found a few good ideas there on how to raise the boat up. I needed to get the keel off and this is where i found my idea's. I just needed to raise the bow up a little to get my keel off and out. You don't have to raise the whole boat up. Rite now i have the forward part of the boat up on two pieces of 4x6 on the front part of the bunks and the stern resting on the back part of the bunks.This is giving me the same effect as boat stands.Although, painting under the boat where the bunks are exposed would be a little harder to do, it is still exposed there without the thrill of jackin the boat up high enough to get the bunks clear....read the forum archives..
