Hello all,
I'm the proud new owner of an 86 27 and will be doing a pretty thorough rehab of the interior in the coming months. For starters, the carpet on the wallls is coming down (and nasty) and I've already removed it. The carpet on the ceiling in the Vee berth has some black mold spots that I don't know if they will ever come out.
I'm considering replacing the walls with marine vinyl, or perhaps just cleaning and painting it. Or maybe going the classy route with wood strips or paneling in the main salon on the walls between the deck and the seat backs.
In the Vee, I'm thinking about pulling down the carpet from the ceiling and then bringing it home and washing it in bleach and borax to make it safe again. Then sticking it back up.
Since most S2 models appear to have been carpeted all over, I'm interested if others have done similar rehabs, and if so what solutions you chose? Pics would be very cool.

i am replaceing the over head covering with new carpet ...you may want to steam clean it first to see if you could salvage it a friend of mine in Jacksonville used resolve carpet cleaner to clean his with a scrub brush..as for the area between the seat backs and the underside of the deck i may do the striping thing but not sure at this time..... i have 1/4 inch teak plywood covering the area around the port lights..and am decideing weather to cover it with vinyl or replaceing it with new 1/4 inch teak plywood...if i use the vinyl it will lighten up the salon some what and may be the better way to go......

You can clean the ceiling with bleach water and a bissell type carpet cleaner. A scrub brush will pull the pile and mess it up. In our boat the carpet on the ceiling was installed before the bulkheads. If you take it down you will have to cut at them and be very precise on reinstalling. Just clean it, I say. Sailrite has the ceiling carpet, I think they call it hull liner.

My interior was very bad too. I used resolve carpet cleaner to clean the headliner and the walls too. It looks very good know. You can check out my before and after photo's on my profile.

Were I you, I would probably just paint it with a single part urethane in a light color, like white. If the surface is rough, you could use a thick nap roller to impart a small texture to it. I actually like the mouse fur. Mine is coming down in places, but 3M spray contact cement will take care of that.
