Like this!

I have a 1987 boat but I'm sure it's laid out the same way. Attached is a photo of the dodger and the bimini. The dodger was purchased through this web site, by way of the chandlery, but when I went to check the link for this posting I noticed that it's no longer offered. But don't worry; I'm sure a canvas shop in your area can make one for you. I'm not near my boat but I will probably be on it next weekend. There is a manufacture's label on the dodger (for the life of me I can't remember who it is) and when I'm on board again I'll jot it down for you. We ordered it on line and installed it ourselves. If you take you're time it's easy. It fits great and we count it as one of the best purchases for our boat. As you'll see from the attached photo, we also have a bimini which is a little trickier to install on a 285 but that's another story. The bimini was custom made for me by a canvas shop next door to my marina. I'll post the name of the bimini manufacturer when I get it or maybe someone else who ordered on line here will post it. I don't know why Hunter Owners doesn’t offer them any longer. You might call or e-mail thier customer service. Ordering it on line was about $300 cheaper then having it made by a local shop but we had to install it. Good luck!

Thank you

Our boats are the same. Thank you. Your boom looks high. How did you do this? What was the cost?

Came that way

My boat came with that boom height and as far as I know it's "standard" height. In the attached photo you can see that it's a close fit with just a few inches to spare before it rubs on the bimini. I also raise the boom a little before deploying the bimini and low it back down when it's folded.

Dodger and Bimini

We don't have one, but a reasonable height dodger shouldn't be too much of a challenge. Watch out for the winch handle clearance on the cabintop winches. Also, the original mainsail cut & boom height when sailing was only about 5'-6" clear of the cockpit floor. I had my new main cut higher at the outhaul clew to allow a Bimini height of about 6'-2". The 'wedge' of sail area lost was minimal and compensated by a slightly larger roach. North Sails Annapolis made a beautiful custom Bimini mounted on the foreward rail of the stern pulpit. It covers the full width of the stern, about 7' and extends forward about 5' to 6' from the stern and obviously with no deck mounting it can't interfere with winches or dock lines.
