My 2011 Hunter 33 does not appear to have any zincs. I can not find any on the shaft, support strut, or anywhere external to the hull. Is this common to all 2003-2011 Hunter 33s? The boat does have a galvanic isolator, but I wassn't aware this would preclude the zincs.

The addition of zincs to the shaft is entirely an owner option. I doubt that they come from Hunter with them. If a Hunter had them, they would probably have been added by the dealer in commissioning.

A Galvonic Isolator does not preclude zincs. It protects against stray current coming in through the AC ground, but not other sources (including the boat itself). I would expect a zinc on the shaft and one on the strut.

When I bought my 44DS new in 2004 there was a page I signed that specifically outlined the zinc requirements -- I believe this was from Hunter but could have been from my dealer. I'd give Hunter a call and ask about zincs. You'll at least need one on your shaft.

That's what I thought. It just seems weird that the boat was delivered without any zincs at all. I'll have to talk to the dealer or possibly the marina. INstalling one on the shaft is easy, but the strut or keel may be trickier.

Would you really need a zinc on the strut? I would think that It would be covered by a shaft zinc, thru the shaft bearing, or perhaps via grounding wire run to the engine?

To zinc or not to zinc?

Was working on the boat today. As I wondered around the boatyard trying to find a working bathroom (everything was still winterized and locked up) I checked out the zinc situation on the baots I passed. Suprisingly, about 1/3 of the baots have no zincs at all, most boats have a single shaft zinc and there is one worldy looking cruiser that has more zincs on it then some warships I've seen. Seems like cheap insurance, so I'll be ordering a steramlines shaft zinc.
