Does the jib sail look right?

I have attached a few pics here. I was just wondering if the way the jib is fastened and jibsheets look right to all. the jib sheets allways catch on the shrouds and the jib some times catches on the fore stanchion. And it chaffs on the life lines. So I was wondering if the jip should have a line from where it attaches to the bow up to the tack to raise it some?

Run the sheets on the outside of the shrouds, that will help. I had the same problem with my jib, I ran a line through a block to the foot of the sail, I hoist the jib and pull it tight from the bottom with the foot a couple of inches below the bow pulpit. The sail fills and tacks a lot better this way.

You can raise your Jib up about 12" by adding a tack line between the bow plate and the sail. This should prevent the sail from chafing on the bow pulpit.

Last season was our last year using a blown out 170% genoa that was too big for the O'day 25, and always, always got caught on the spreaders when we were tacking. It was a real pain.

This year we have a new headsail, on a roller furling, which is different from your setup, but we also installed these little plastic rollers above our spreader on the side-stay, I think Harken makes them, cost about $20 at West Marine, very quick easy install, although you'll have to get up in the air a bit.

Also, a previous post is correct, you need to run your jib sheets outside of the spreaders.

Here is a link to the rollers at West Marine. The ones I bought were made by Harken, I can't find a link to them right now. One of the best $20 I ever spent, the new genny never gets caught on the spreaders now, it just rolls right off. . .
