Macgregor 26 Staten Island
I found a nice boat, but it is sold WITHOUT TRAILER. I would like to know whether
MacGregor 26X requires only the original trailer, or any trailer of this size can be used?

Thank you!

I did a lot of research on the Mac 26 (I was looking at the M) before deciding on a bigger boat. The Mac trailer is nothing special, except you have to check where the bunks rest on the hull. I think you would have to remove any rollers that may be installed for the bottom of the "V" due to the centerboard on the 26X.

You may be able to find a trailer for the Mac....I recall seeing a website that sold new, aluminum replacement trailers (dual axle I think) to better handle the load of the 26.

Here are a few links:
http://www.svwhale.com/l1trailer.shtml. This guy upgraded his trailer...

http://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/15252. This is the upgraded, dual axle trailer I referred to...

The original trailer was a single axle due to the light weight of the boat. This said, a single axle is suggested but with a spare tire but be careful of the overhang as some states require only so much. Get brakes as well for safety and it may require a state inspection.

As one comment, the bunk boards need to be long and contured to the hull for wieght distribution. Ron Frisosky has designed a trailer for the MacGregor as he represents road King/Sailors trailers and he has been doing that for so long. In other words he knows his stuff. 941-914-3890
