Dodgers are one those things that are designed and built by canvas tradesmen in the boatyard. There are many features you will want to review and consider prior to a final design. Frames need to be carefully measured, built and installed. Inevitable repairs will also then be done locally. Start a relationship with a recommended local shop. A good dodger is not cheap, but it is worth having.

Be sure to specify the fabric used- probably Sunbrella. A friend bought a B42 and opted for the canvas package. The dodger/bimini, not a B product, was locally made. All too soon- on the ICW- he needed it repaired. The man said owner should have used Sunbrella. Owner said it is SUPPOSEDLY Sunbrella. It was not.
Well, you either need time or money... Sailrite estimates the time required for a dodger is about 25-35 hours. They have all the information, plans, and videos you need. But you also need to be a little creative when putting it all together. The videos on how-to is about 4 hours long. I have time so I’ve been working on it over the winter.
Hey Megaman, it looks like we must be neighbors (at least somewhat). Did you get yourself a dodger made?
Mine had a dodger but it disintegrated, so I've got all the snaps and the poles, but no fabric. My aunt is a reupholsterer (tho' retired I think) so I'm hoping she can make me one, but otherwise I'll be looking for a local shop. Considering the longest we've gone without rain since April 10th is 31 hours, it'd be nice to be able to open my companionway without having the rain come in.
I finished my winter projects. Now onto summer ones!

There are a few canvas companies out there that can supply a dodger kit. I installed one on a Hunter 31 but was not happy with the fit up. Since then I purchased custom dodger from a local canvas shop to ensure I got exactly what I wanted, including Makrolon glass and connection to a full bimini.
I restiched a custom fabric Dodger for a cc33 last month that the thread was rotting out of. I was very impressed with the workmanship and fit/finish of it. It all comes down to what you want and how picky you want to be. I don't see a kit or DIY application coming anywhere near this level. That's why the canvas guys charge what they charge. Not having the boat available for mock up and final fit really impacts the final product I believe.
