I am thinking of using a Dodger Kit to construct a dodger for my 1989 Hunter 30. Do any of you have experience with these kits to include bimini kits?
I would like to talk to a Hunter owner who has a dodger on his boat!

Thanks,
Steve

This is absouletly one of the most difficult sewing projects on a boat. We had one of our fellow boaters that "thought" they could make a proper dodger for their boat. They already had a frame so it iwas just a matter of matching what they already had.

They got the project completed with so-so results and said they would never attempt to do it again.

Have to agree with Steve as I usually do. I made my own bimini from a Sailrite kit. Takes a very good machine with a walking foot, lots of practice, and lots of patience. From that experience I would never tackle a dodger.

My '79 has the original Island Nautical dodger. I have sewn on it probably three out of the last ten winters. New seams and new zippers mainly. But the work around the "glass" is just too hard. And there are so many corners. My hat is off to canvas makers.

I recently looked into a dodger for a 1987 hunter 31. One local SF dodger canvas fabricator wanted $3,250 installed. JSI.com offered an east coast dodger for ~$1,500 with installation by you. I would discuss this with your local and on-line canvas shops to get a competitive price. Look carefully at canvas weight, zippers, windows and stainless steel tubing diameter and gauge.
