I have finally received my certificate of documentation papers for my boat I purchased in December. Have looked all over for the original owners location for the number in the interior as required. I can not find it, any ideas where the best place to put the number? Thanks

permanent and visable

The documentation from the Coast Guard describes how the numbers must be displayed, so I purchased a vinal plastic number kit from Walmart, stuck my numbers on the fiberglass bulkhead in my aft quarter cabin, and painted West Epoxy over the numbers to adhere. Its permanent and visable as required, but pretty much out of sight. A friend put his numbers under his sole on the fiberglass in much the same way with West epoxy. Works well.

The number on our boat consists of decals...

mounted on a plastic plate. The plate is screwed to the bilge bulkhead then covered with two coats of epoxy. Terry

Permanent documentation numbers

The Coast Guard requires that the number be applied on a permanent part of the boat. They do not require that the number be always visible. My approach to applying our documentation number permanently to our 40.5 was to use a permanent marker to write the number on the permanent bulkhead behind the shower faucet cover just above the engine room access on the port side of the aft head. Three inch high numerals hidden from casual view but easy to reveal to anyone who requires that I show them. All Good Wishes! Ron Hughes s/v "Best Revenge" h40.5

What

The Documentation number should be the same as it was for the old owner. Just be the old number and location.

numbers

I just installed mine by putting stick on numbers on a cross section of the hull in the bilge under a removable floor panel.I coated them with an automotive epoxy mix from NAPA for 3.99. hidden but you would have to carve them out to remove them.

Ours is pirate proof...

Hi G...we had a friend make ours and we put it in the v-berth, port side just under the sleeping area where the clothes are and had it solidly glued to the inside hull. Nothing will take it off and that is the whole point. Just in case the pirates get your boat they can't take this off. :)
