Dock water question

I am considering adding a water fill inlet to the boat. I want to be able to use the dock water and pressure while at the dock. I just replaced all the plumbing with 1/2" red and blue pex with pressure fittings and eliminated all clamps, barb fittings and 30 years of hardened and leaky hoses. I have selected a water fill that has a door and also a pressure reducer in order to maintain the pressure under 40#.

Do I need to install a ball valve at the inlet point in order to avoid pushing water out when I use the boa'ts electric water pump or does the water port has a one way valve?? All the ones I have found have a pressure limiter bot no one specifies a one way valve.

Also,do I need to install a ball valve at the electric 12v water pump in order to isolate the pump and water tanks. I dont want to push water into the tanks via the water pump, or is the pump a one way pump?

In other words, when using the dock water, open the inlet valve and close the pump valve while away from the dock, open the pump valve and close the inlet valve

Also, I am aware most boats that sink at the dock is because someone forgot to disconect the dock water. So leaving the water on while not using the boat is a big no no in my book.

Let me know how your system works so I can go in the right direction.

Thanks All

You bring up a good question....
here is a diagram of what I did to my 78 hunter 33

I have a write up about it here

I have not hooked up the water tank yet because I am considering replacing the forward alum tank with 2 tanks (one under each lazarette in the salon).

The tank and weight of the water I plan to replace with batteries so that the bow does not go up and down with the amount of water in the forward tank. (hope that makes sense...)

I will have to check your thought about the water pressure pump pushing water out the inlet port.

actually, now that I think about it, the Y-valve is really a garden hose diverter valve (it has 2 ball valves in it) that allows me to shut off any water flow going back to the filter. So if it does cause back flow I have the ability to stop it.

Thanks for your reply. It looks like you gave your system a lot of thought. I merely replaced what was there with new pex. Anyway, I found out that the water fill has a built in one way valve, or backflow preventer. That takes care of water flowing back out when I turn on the pump. I will use a shut off at the pump just to isolate it from the incoming presure.
Thats for your imput. Your schematic helped a lot visualize how others tackle the same problems.
