They can...

But the good news is, if it has, a boat that old has already gotten all the blisters it's ever gonna have.

At that price, it has to be a little rough...but a good buy if it's sound. Be sure to make any offer "subject to survey and sea trial" and hire the best surveyor in town, preferably NAMS certified.

NO they do NOT blister--they WONT blister, as the compound they were laid up using was toxic and the gelcoat was hand painted on the mold....classic and awesome find....goood work
the fiberglass was hand laid and was made over 2 inches deep with plenty of epoxy saturating the roving because the builders didnt know at that time what fiberglass would do over time--very solid..i had a 1968 commander 38 was laid up in 1967--one of the first 18 chris crafts laid in glass instead of made of wood planking---ye got a good one--lotsa bux, tho--look up on the port side of the flying bridge if there is one for wood rot--chris crafts are known for that area being rotty, if there is gonna be any--and check your stringers well.......otherwise--very very sound boat----does it still have original chris craft cross on bow and the chris craft original trims???? gorgeous stinkpots!!!--and what engines does it have??? my commander had 427s!!!! woooohoooo--powah!! sounded awesome......my cavalier had 283s--sounded great.....by the way---the problems with fiberglass didnt occur until 1973 when the laws were changed thanks to the epa regarding the resins toxicity and the gelcoat was sprayed instead of hand painted and the mat was introduced --not enough epoxy was used to saturate the mat cloth--roving is stronger and not with a chopper look....nicely woven.....listen to the engines--they are detroit iron--should run smooth and start right up after 5-15 min of blower time--be careful with the blower--make sure that both of them work--donot wanna blow up the boat!!! tranny should be smooth and the bendix twin screw autopilots should work well and smoothly together without making a drunken sailor path....the interior is philipine mahogany with some minor amount of teak trim....check for delamination and interior rottiness due to the philipine mahogany not standing up to weather....gooood luck---is a decent price for a 35 ft classic---is twin gas, so may be able to reduce price for yourself.....goood luck!!!! oh yes--pictures. p[lease--is nice to see classic boats even if they were power ones LOL....

I'm not sure what a Chris Craft "commander" is but I will assume it's a sailboat or you wouldn't be posting on this site. I believe Zeehag is confusing it with a power boat. Never heard of sailboat with twin 427's or 283's. I owned a chevy with a 427 back in the 60's. My only experience with a Crist Craft sailboat is being at anchor twice next to one. They were beautiful boats. Peggy's advice is excellent - take it.

A Chris Craft "commander" is a classic power boat and who cares if the poster asked the question here, cause here is where he'll find an answer like Zeehag gave
BTW
I had a 61 Chris Craft Constellation or Connie for short that I restored and re powered with 427's, the picture is not mine but the same classic yacht

It is a twin engine power boat, and a classic

And you'd be amazed at the number of powerboat (mostly trawler, though) owners who drop by here looking for help with systems and/or equipment that's non-propulsion specific.

Or who have some expertise in a particular area...:) This IS my boat, that I bought in sound but non-running and uninhabitable condition and restored.
...same vintage as the CC Commander.

scott, darling--a chris craft commander is a stinkpot runs on gas and is a sexy baby--hull is 2 1/2 inches thick fibegrglass.--they can ask all they want to here--i will answer them without attitude--they are a classic and gorgeous....chriscraft also made sailboats but they had issues--the commander just needed a mast and woulda been perfect lol....i had chris crafts--1967 commander --fiberglass and a 1965 cavalier 35--glass over wood....i studied the chris crafts in depth--became an expert on them, yes.i worked with my sailboat manufacturer in 1990 and learned a lot about the layup of glass boats and the compounds used in 1960s to now---i have apprenticed with surveyor..what do ye wish to know--i know engines and glass and many things ye dont know--i think the man is in good hands with my answers.......and yes, i DO know that the chris craft in question is a power boat----oh yes--i have been around boats for over 50 years..since i was 7 yrs old......learned on gaff rig--taught by tallshipman..family owned great lakes shipping company -- are my credentials good enough for ye?????...if the only chris ye have seen is a sailboat in an anchorage, then ye should maybe allow someone else to answer the question who may just know about the boat in question--many sailboat owners have had " stinkies" --and they arent a bad kinda boat--lots of fun and comfy..twin engines are a gas..nopun intended....have a nice evening and smoooth sailing....there is a place in this world for each--power boats and sail boats--both are fun and both have gooood uses...LOL.......

peggy--what year is your beauty???

rad--gorgeous connie!!!!

I stand corrected and meant no offense to anyone. I agree, all are welcome to post regardless of type of boat. In my book, anything that floats is great - power, sail, paddle, rowed, doesnt matter - lovem all. Beautiful boat Peggie.

Scott, My Dink is a Payson Nymph I named it ATF (anything that floats)! The first boat my brother and I built was a white pine log with an outrigger to keep it from dumping us into the lake.

I always loved the deep, throaty rumble of the old mahogany runabouts. No ear spiltting roars just that growl of complete authority.

I'll always remember the day I test ran the new 427's and the "Weekend Wanderer" leaped out of the water and flew like a bat outta hell across the bay....:dance:the sound of those engines were aw-some
I still have the Chris Craft 305 flywheel forward port engine sitting on the shop floor looking for a home

Thanks All! I can't believe I posted that here. I am a sailboat owner of a few years and have been living aboard. My Columbia Payne 9.6 is a little small for my 11 year old daughter and me so I started considering powerboats. I prefer sailing but I do love all boats. And this site has been so great for my boating education that I didn't even remember that it is a sailing site! I'm going to try and buy the Chris Craft but I'll still sail also.
