National Park Service

"These toads have prominent parotoid glands that secrete a potent toxin. It can make you sick if you handle the frog or get the poison in your mouth. As we say with most things you come across in a national park, whether it be a banana slug, unfamiliar mushroom, or a large toad with glowing eyes in the dead of night, please refrain from licking. Thank you,"

Do not be afraid of @Kermit , plus licking him is not welcome.

I see that warning just like the one that says to not drink the battery acid in your car's battery.. Let Darwin's theory take its course. I have eaten a bunch of frog legs, but I've never had a desire to lick a toad.. I wonder if alligators have that same warning?

It feels like this is the time that we should require the National Park Service to properly tag all toads with a warning sign.

Properly sized these warning labels could be glued to their backs.

No way to tell how many lives could be saved. Toads could wear them like a badge of courage.
With the proper training the NPS could get the toads to volunteer to for tagging.

There is nothing greater than a toad doing good for the preservation of humanity.

Actually, when my family lived in Guam when my dad was stationed at Anderson AFB during the early sixties... there were two major dangerous animal warnings given to new arrivals from stateside
1 The first was always wear foot protection and gloves diving or even just walking in shallow water, Stone and Lionfish abound, along with the poisonous critters than live in conical shells. In fact, the military required any personnel wanting to spear fish or collect shells, take the course to be issued a "reef pass") It was actually a pretty big deal and a serious reprimand and fine followed a citation. There were a lot of injuries to people who only thought sharks and morays were the big danger (they weren't.} Neither were snakes, believe it or not. but that's another interesting story I won't bore you with... suffice it to say the snakes arrived a number of years later and flourished since there were no natural predators to keep them in check.
2. Oh, I almost forgot, there's the #2 warning. DON"T LET YOUR PETS BITE THE POISONOUS TOADS. (Sorry, no one called them Frogs). Our pet dachshund got little too curious with one of these monster toads (they're bigger than an outstretched hand} and the poor pooch's lower spine and legs were paralyzed for almost 2 weeks.
Wow.... no sailing... but a good subject to spin some yarns.

While hiking in the Superstition Mountains several years ago when my son was about 9, we stopped by a small pool to rest. He found some toads in the pool and caught and played with one as boys will do. He wiped the sweat from his face and eyes and about 10 minutes later went blind. We figured it was the slime form the toads. We flushed his eyes and I had to hand lead him back out the trail. An hour later his site returned. Was very scary.

Did you hear about the 800 pound Frog that jumped off the Empire State Building in 1956?

Answer is below.

His corpse had to be ...

TOAD AWAY

When I was a kid, we all had our own guns, minibikes, fireworks and were outside until the streetlights came on er and go back out to sleep under the stars in the backyard.

Nobody thought it was dangerous, but the stupid ones did not make it.

When I was 12, My dad left me overnight in a tent in a National Park campground
with my 6 year old brother.
Dad was staying at the 'lodge' 5 miles away with his new, third wife.
Was I worried?
No, I had a flashlight and a 10 inch Bowie knife. :pimp:No permit required...
I still have the knife!

If you buy a new power tool and open the operators manual you will find pages of useless safety instructions. Buried in there somewhere are probably a few useful instructions but I do not know anyone with the stamina to wade through all the other nonsense. Lawyers did this.

Lawyers hired by fools who had no commonsense and got themselves hurt. It is always somebody else's fault.

Just picked up a new portable table saw with folding stand.

Once you got past the assembly instructions, there was more safety crap than operation info. A minute with scissors and it was much smaller.

They should save money and just have a single page in 3 languages... ”Danger :yikes: Saw will cut flesh faster than wood. By keeping this saw, you are accepting all responsibility, risk and waive any legal claims. If you don't want to accept this, return the saw to the store”

Easy enough to do this for all products, entry to parks, ski resorts, etc.

My dad had a homemade table saw. Didn't come with a user manual or safety labels. Watching it cut through wood was warning enough.
