Do I need my stern pulpit ?

I removed my stern pulpit, to fix it. Now I find that I prefer not having it there. Question: Why do I need it ? I don't race in the ocean. I can secure my lifelines elsewhere. I prefer the "openness" without it. Boat is a 1976 Cat. 27. What am I overlooking ? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
